Organizing small spaces inside a small home can be difficult, but here are some expert tips on how such spaces can be maximized.
The resident interior experts at Style At Home say there are several ways on how a small space can seem bigger, and it is all about choosing the right furniture and maximizing the available space.
According to their resident experts Lynda Felton and Kyla Rozman, small rooms don't have to hold small furniture. Lynda suggests that a large section can have a small sofa or chair. Kyla also suggested that it is important to know what needs to be stored and to organize things by keeping similar objects together.
For small spaces, it is also best to make use of shelves and to always think vertically. Wall and vertical spaces can usually go to waste, but they can be used for storage in small spaces.
In the kitchen, they claim that it is important to use light-colored cabinets and open shelves to add light to the place. Using dark-colored paint for cabinets can give the impression that the room is smaller. To increase the capacity and accessibility of the room, using pullout shelves and bins is also a must.
For the living room, it is best to invest on flat screen TVs because it can save space since you can hang them instead of adding a stand for them. In the bathroom, Kyla suggests using pullout drawers below the sink and adding shelves around the toilet for more storage.
House Beautiful also suggests that for two-story homes, it is best to utilize the area under the stairway. Aside from that, adding mirrors as decorations can create the illusion that the room is spacious. The key here is to use every inch of space available for storage and also choose colors which will make the room lighter.
