Google Canada's new Kitchener, Ontario-based office opened with the high-profile presence of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau who "cut the ribbon" by seeming playing a game where he lead a sprite through an on-screen maze using four pads of Play-doh so it can reach the Google logo at the finish line, that resulted with an explosion of confetti.
"What's happening here really, really matters, not just to the region, but to the country and the world," Trudeau said according to The Record. "And it's an incredible pleasure to be here today."
The office will be center of engineering and development work for Google. Like other Google offices, the new office also looks beautiful and interesting with many perks for its employees.
On every floor level, there is a micro-kitchen that is stocked with fresh fruit and healthy snacks. The basement gym has a climbing wall with the attendance of a full-time fitness instructor. On the main floor, one can have access to a full kitchen where meals are prepared. If you get bored, you can also enjoy playing with pinball machines, computer games and board games.
And if you feel sleepy or you want to take a rest, there is a nap pod high above the floor. It also has an elevator intended for people who use wheelchairs. There is also a room for storing bicycles and lots of places for informal meetings.
But there is one interesting resting area in the building wherein there are four large stuffed chairs added in front of a fireplace. Above the fireplace is a sculpted moose head that is flanked by overflowing book cases. The wall of bookcases opens to a secret workspace when the right book is moved, CBC News reported.
The new Google office has an area of 185,000 square feet of space which obviously is more than enough for 400 employees. It also has a caricature wall wherein cartoon versions of every employee who have worked with the company for more than three years are framed on the wall. When the event concluded, Trudeau also received a caricature of himself which will be added to the wall.
