Have you ever dreamt of visiting other countries while staying in a luxury home? Now you can when you house-sit for international clients. House-sitting services have been around for decades and this time it's not just keeping a watchful eye on a house for a local client; now you can choose to stay in any home in the world and even get paid for doing so, an article from Star Tribune narrates the experience of a seasoned house sitter.
The house-sitter was supposed to be just taking care of a house and a cat while the owners were away but during the course of her "work" she realized what an amazing experience this was especially when she and her husband got to stay in a huge house in Kent, England.
The gig was just about her and her husband and Floozie the cat but soon the couple became immersed with the culture making their stay an unforgettable one. When she signed up for house-sitting for clients in the UK, she did not expect that she would be hooked.
After a few weeks, the house sitter and her husband got a call from an interested couple from rural England. After a short interview through the web, they flew to London to meet. The homeowners spent a day with the house sitter and were off the next day on their seven-week journey to Asia and Australia.
She recalled the first time they drove to the English countryside in a rental car. The roads were barely a lane-wide. They barely had time to get acquainted with the place but eventually they were able to settle into a routine in no time.
The property was outside the villages of Little Chart and Pluckley, and were surrounded by woods and wheat fields. Little Chart is tiny simply nothing more than a crossroad with a church and a local pub. Pluckley was larger with at least two pubs, a butcher shop, a post office which was also a convenience store, an elementary school, a train station and a farm store.
She and her husband learned shorter routes to the villages, swam at a local health club, visited attractions and took the liberty to check out amazing destinations in the UK such as Leeds Castle, Faversham, Rye, London, Sissinghurst Castle and Gardens, Dover Castle, Canterbury, Charing and Tenterdon. They also watched a show being filmed at Walmer Castle.
The house sitters relaxed, enjoyed their stay and learned a lot about how locals are. They even learned to speak the language. They learned how to appreciate the simplicity of things and the quaint and charming life that is impossible to have in the city.
The entire experience was priceless. "We got to spend seven weeks in Kent for the price of our plane tickets and a rental car."
