A public toilet transformed into a nightclub in London is currently for sale at £1million. Said property is located in the heart of the hipster haven of Spitafields.
The nightclub that occupied the area was formerly known as the Public Life club situated in commercial etreet, east London before it closed in 2012 because of noise and drug complaints from the residents.
The property has a 600sqft-space wherein its 435 sq.ft area outside is intended for private seating. Currently, it is used as a Lebanese falafel restaurant, Mail Online reported.
Estate agent Clarke and Lloyds listed the former public toilet saying it was redeveloped over 15 years ago into a commercial unit as a bar/restaurant.
"The premises are brilliantly situated in the heart of Commercial Street, directly opposite the Spitalfield market and within easy walking distance to both Shoreditch and Aldgate," the listing stated.
The location of the property is at Spitafields which is rich in cultural and industrial history. Before, it is full of cafes, shows and class pubs but now, trendy boutiques, restaurants and bars line the area. It is seen right outside the Christ Church of Nicholas Hawksmoor and is also nearby the Old Spitafields Market.
The space is also described as "charming and quirky" and it is said to be "ideal for a number of different ventures including bars, restaurant, and nightclubs."
However, the new owners might find it challenging to get a permit to open another nightclub in the area since the residents are not happy with it. They claim that they hate to walk past revelers and clubbers who are seen all over the area.
"I find it hard to see how a licensed premises will work there. Whoever moves in is going to struggle to get much local support because the history was so bad," said Matt Piper, 44-years-old, chairman of Spitalfields Community Group, according to Evening Standard. He also added that "if another bar opened there I think it would struggle and a lot of people would object to any license application."
