House Selling: What do Millennial Buyers Want and Need in a New Home?

Selling a house to the millennials is sometimes viewed as a challenging task, as this generation often requires certain key features when buying a home. While the quality is definitely an important aspect, several reports claim that there are certain features and elements that the millennial generation is looking for in a house.

The millennial generation is said to be the largest segment on the buyer market. This means that real estate agents are now on the lookout for those who were born between 1980 and 2000, and are now looking into buying their first ever home.

As previously reported here on Realty Today, several real estate agents were worried when the millennials did not seem to be interested in buying their first homes and instead chose to rent. While 2016 seems to be a positive year for the millennials to begin looking into purchasing a home, there are still certain elements that this generation is looking for in a house.

"They're young professionals who prefer a turnkey home that needs little or no work," says Margie Gundersheim, a Realtor in Massachusetts, to Bankrate.

"(Or they're) creative/romantic buyers who want to invest sweat equity and money over time, and put their personal stamp on the property and add value for the future."

Taking these into consideration, Realty Times noted that there are several elements that may attract the millennial generation into investing their cash on real estate.

One of the things that the millennials want in a home is a modern and functional kitchen. According to the outlet, most homebuyers are now on the lookout for kitchens with new appliances, especially those that are energy efficient.

Aside from an updated kitchen, new homebuyers are also looking for homes that offer plenty of storage space and a separate room for doing the laundry. An open floor plan is also becoming the trend among the millennial homebuyers, as this allows for better look and feel.
