Edgar House in Chester Named Best Small Hotel in the World

A seven-bedroom Edgar House, a modest-looking hotel located in Chester is judged as the number one small hotel worldwide through the annual travelers' choice awards from internet review site, TripAdvisor.

Said hotel opened less than three years ago and is overlooking the River Dee but it became famous garnering more than 400 reviews in the site where in three rated it as "Excellent" while the rest gave a rating of "very good."

Rates start at £169 per night and had a £400,000 makeover, featuring individually designed rooms, a mini-cinema serving popcorn and ice cream, free-standing baths, and an honesty bar inside a phone box. The design of the hotel does not fit children less than 14 years of age since it is said to be "designed for adults."

One of its happy guests is former 007 Sir Roger Moore, who came to the hotel last year with his wife Kristina. He even thanked the owners for his "very pleasant stay" in a Twitter post.

According to hotel guide Alastair Sawday, the Edgar House is a "super cool bolthole with a position that’s hard to beat, Chester’s equivalent of the royal box."

It beat the globe’s most exclusive hotels with fewer than 30 rooms, including The Place luxury villas on the Thai island of Ko Tao and the intimate La Minerva on the Italian resort of Capri.

Having received the award, co-owner Mike Stephen, who runs it with partner Tim Mills said that they were "over the moon" to be recognized as the 2016 Travelers' Choice Awards winner by TripAdvisor.

"To be named the number one small hotel in the world is an incredible honor and we can't find the words to say how thrilled and humbled we are," Stephen said, according to Mail Online. "We'd like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to all of our team and, of course, to the wonderful hotel and restaurant guests for supporting us."

Other small hotels that made it to the top 10 according to Big Hospitality includes The Pillars Retreat, Taupo, New Zealand; Saffire Freycinet, Coles Bay, Australia; Nayara Springs, La Fortuna de San Carlos, Costa Rica; The Place Luxury Boutique Villas, Ko Tao, Thailand; La Minerva, Capri, Italy; The Old Rectory Hotel, Martinhoe, United Kingdom; Riad Kheirredine, Marrakech, Morocco; Spirit of the Knights Boutique Hotel, Rhodes Town, Greece and The Dairy Private Hotel, Queenstown, New Zealand.
