A home is where the heart is, or so they say. More than this, a home is the place you go to after a long day's work. If you're the type of person who likes spending as much time at home then you should know the importance of keeping your abode well-lit.
According to Elle Décor, there are several different types of lights that you can install in your home, but only three truly matter. The publication also quoted what Oscar de la Renta previous said about lighting, "The most important thing? Perfect lighting at all times."
Meanwhile, interior designer Michael Murphy told the publication that it is important for any homeowner to first find balance between the three must-haves of lighting. This includes ambient, task and accent.
Murphy explained what ambient lighting is and said, "Ambient lighting provides even, overall illumination to a room." Ambient lighting usually comes in the form of chandeliers. A dinner with family and friends can be a little brighter and happier, but with a dimmer you can easily convert the same price into a romantic, more dimly lit dinner table for a romantic evening."
Murphy also explained what task lighting is and said that this the type of light that is to be used when cooking, writing and doing other kinds of similar tasks. Task lighting in bathrooms have also become popular, he added.
Lastly, accent lighting is the lighting you need to use if you want to emphasize certain types of art work or photos at home.
"It can also be used to highlight a textured wall, or other architectural features," he explained.
More specifically, accent lights can come in the form of picture lights, and they are known for creating a beautiful atmosphere at home.
