Eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao is really dead serious in fighting Floyd Mayweather Jr. that he’s already agreed to accept the lesser share of the 60/40 split for the mega-buck fight to happen.
Coming off a sensational 12-round decision over Christopher Algieri to retain his WBO Welterweight championship in Macau a week ago, Pacquiao has now put more pressure on Mayweather’s camp to finally agree on a fight that could be worth as much as $1 billion.
The 35-year old Pacquiao hasn’t been known for calling out a potential opponent, but the Pacman believes it’s about time for boxing fans to know who really is the best boxer in this era.
In an interview with AsianFightScene.com, Pacquiao confirmed that he indeed agree to take $60 million, which is $40 million lesser to Mayweather’s guaranteed fight purse of $100 million.
“I agree with the $100 million guarantee to Floyd Mayweather, and have accepted only $60 million for me,” Pacquiao told senior reporter Eddie Alinea of AsianFightScene.com.
The fighting congressman stressed that he accepted a lesser purse to take on Money May just to give the fans they have been looking for all this time. Then again, he believes that the ball is still on Mayweather’s court.
“I took this challenge because of the demand from boxing fans, which became stronger after I beat Chris Algieri. I’ve accepted every demand up to this point, including his earlier demands on drug-testing. But instead of accepting, here he comes again making statements insulting me using social media.”
Still, Pacman’s head coach Freddie Roach is also optimistic that Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight will happen because the right people are finally negotiating to get it done.
“I just listened a lot, but they spoke about what they could do and how to make the fight happen," Roach said. "Moonves said he can deliver Mayweather, and obviously Bob said he could deliver Pacquiao."
"What they said in that meeting, if they can do it, then the fight will happen, very soon," said the trainer. "Moonves and Bob walked out to Moonves' car with their arms around each other."
