A new report has revealed the estimated release date of the enlarged tablets, dubbed as the "iPad Pro" or "iPad Air Plus," along with suggested device schematics.
According to the January issue of Japanese Magazine Mac Fan via Mac Otakara, the next generation iPad will sport a 12.2-inch LCD display along with dimensions of 305.31mm x 220.8mm x 7mm (12 x 8.7 x 0.28 inches).
As a point of comparison, rival company Samsung has out in the market the 12.2-inch Samsung Galaxy Note/ Tab Pro that clocks in at 295.6 x 203.9 x 7.95 mm (11.6 x 8 x .31 inches). Based on the specs provided by Mac Fan, the apple device would be the larger gadget in its class.
Aside from the laptop sized display, Mac Fan claim that the iPad Pro will have an upgraded processor -- Apple A9 -- different from the present A8X chip sported by the iPad Air 2. The report also alleges that the so-called iPad Air Plus will have dual top and bottom speakers for an enhanced audio experience.
Physically, the larger iPad is believed to have the same design presently seen on the iPad Air 2 and iPad mini.
NDTV reports that the iPad Pro or iPad Air Plus includes a Touch ID fingerprint sensor but it's unclear if the device will run on a new iOS specifically geared for the larger screen with a rumored split-screen feature. The site further added: "Apple might also include oxide LCD technology for the alleged iPad Pro for 'quick response times and higher color saturation,' which was recently used on the 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display."
With regards to the release date time line, the site recalls a report from last month that indicates the tablet won't go into mass production any earlier than the second quarter of 2015. App Advice notes the same timeline and say it's possible alongside the iPad Pro, the iPad Mini 4, which Apple is reportedly also working on.
Apple fans can expect to get their hands on the device sometime next spring as the iPad Pro could see a release between April and June of next year.
Tech Times recalls earlier reports that claimed the bigger iPad was due out soon after the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus release but due to the overwhelming demand for the new smartphones, the Cupertino-based tech film had to push back production for the iPad Pro to comply with the iPhone demand.
