Renovation is something that only those willing to withstand stress and shoulder great expense can do.
According to Domain, Architect Kim Crestani may have found a way to make stress more bearable if not completely eliminated. Such "stress antidote" may also cut cost and time of restoring detached and semi-detached houses in Sydney, Australia.
Crestani's invention is The Pod System, which is an architect-designed home addition that can be completed in only 16 weeks and would cost a standard amount of $329,000 goods and services tax (GST) for a new kitchen, bathroom, living area and main bedroom. The Pod System is further described as a "bolt-on renovation" with a 9-by-5-meter footprint that adds a new double story to suitable properties.
Speaking of her creation, Crestani said, "This is like buying a renovation 'off the plan' - it revolutionises the renovation process and the bill at the end." She added, "This is a very quick construction and provided the site has easy access, it's a simple build."
The Pod would need to stand precisely behind a pitched roofline in order to maintain the home's original front as it offers additional living, kitchen and bedroom areas without spilling over to the back yard. The Pod's walls and floors will be made with a lightweight concrete brick called a Hebel. It will be pre-cut, pre-designed, pre-labelled and craned into place, tailor-fitted to every owner's requirements.
According to Domain, Architech Crestani has said that traditional architectural renovations typically costs about $5,000 per square meter and could last up to nine months to finish. The Pod, on the other hand, was created to minimize expenses and decrease renovation time.
There will be unique architect-designed floor plans and configurations and assembled by Carty Homes for an upfront fixed price. Crestani said, "People can choose their own finishes to tailor it to what they want."
