Things You Need to Have at Home to Improve Your Mood

They say happiness cannot be found in material things, but research suggests that having certain items at home can help boost your mood and keep you happy all day long.

According to Good Housekeeping, there are certain colors, features and items that have been discovered to provide one with feelings of happiness and satisfaction.

For instance, a study from the Vrije University in Amsterdam revealed that green or yellow paint used in walls evoke feelings of happiness. If you are confused about which color to go for in your bedroom, then maybe going for either of these hues is a great start.

Aside from this, surrounding yourself with fresh flowers and old photos can also help bring about these positive feelings. The publication noted that fresh flowers help make one feel satisfied while putting sentimental photos out for display can make one feel calm.

An article from the March 2008 issue of Oprah magazine also revealed that certain pieces and features influence and stimulate specific parts of the brain.

"The premise is to consider how each feature of the architectural environment influences certain brain processes such as those involved in stress, emotion, and memory," said Eve Edelstein, PhD.

While light is known as a mood-modulator, the outlet noted that choosing a vanilla-scented candle will help boost your mood even better. A study from Chemical Senses revealed that the scent of vanilla beans help uplift your mood.

As flowers have been found to improve feelings of satisfaction, so do floral scents at home. According to the publication, going for floral-scented perfumes help boost feelings of happiness, as the receptors for smell are directly linked to your brain.

Start your day right by making your bed after you wake up. A study found that 71 percent of those who made their beds say they are happy while 62 percent of those who did not, consider themselves unhappy.
