Building Realty: The Most Awaited New York City Residential Buildings Opening in 2016

New York City continues to be one of the country's top residential building developers and in 2016, a few real estates will be opening its doors to residents.

NYC is not in a shortage of real estate development and continues to construct residential buildings, which are actually popular among those wanting to buy a home in the Big Apple. According to New York, the city has a solid real estate market that caters both to those seeking affordable homes and those wanting something more extravagant.

This year one of the most anticipated residential buildings, which will open its doors to occupants, is the Pierhouse located at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Although this piece of real estate battled some issues in 2015 when local residents protested against its construction, the Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation is poised to formally open the building this year.

Reports stated that 78 of the total 106 units in Pierhouse are already in contract, including one which allegedly was being eyed by Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z. Owning a space in this upcoming residence could cost up to $10.4 million.

On the other hand, Curbed NY listed VIA by Bjrake Ingels Group in West Side as the most awaited residential building opening in 2016. This estate shaped like a tetrahedron is being constructed moderately fast. The contemporary-looking building has opened applications for occupancy in 2015. VIA has a total of 142 affordable apartments which can be leased and it has been projected that by mid-year of 2016, residents can start moving in their homes.

Carmel's Bay found in Kip's Bay is slated to open early this year. This residential place offers micro-living, which can be afforded by many single New York City residents. Building the property started in 2014 and was done in a rather unorthodox fashion. Individual units are constructed in a factory and then stack together on the location like pieces of Lego. Each apartment unit is priced between $2,650 and $3,000 per month.

Lastly, 520 West 28th Street is the location of a new futuristic residential building which is set to open this year as well. The high-rise building will have 39 units with up to two to five bedrooms. Once it opens, it will be the first residential home to have a private IMAX theater. This 11-story property is set to finish construction by the end of this year and the $6 million to $16 million apartments will be open to residents.
