A Windsor Home 'Resurrected' from the Ashes is Being Sold for $7.8M

A Windsor house in England was a couple's dream retirement home. Alan and Sue Bussey purchased the property for £2 million or $2.85 million in September 2012. Along the way, while constructing their dream home, the home was buried in ashes.

The fire destroyed the whole four-story home. According to The Wall Street Journal, there was no brickwork left. Mr. Bussey claimed that they spent over £2 million to restore it. He added that the insurance only paid them £1 million. After the fire, it was a challenge for the couple to rebuild their retirement dream home. Luckily, they were able to do it. They are more than happy to see it now because they filled up the house with modern amenities.

"It had been used by an insurance company for offices," said Mrs. Bussey. "There were no fireplaces, no heating, no kitchen. Nothing. But it did have a beautiful staircase, windows and shutters."

While rebuilding the Windsor home, Mr. Bussey claimed that it wasn't easy to find the original materials.  The 1820 Windsor home was made of imperial-sized bricks that are hard to find now, The Sunday Times reports. To finish the their residence, he needed 52,000 bricks. During the reconstruction, some of the contemporary details they added include soundproofing, voids for internal services and an elevator.

Some of the key features of the 5,169-square-foot terraced Georgian townhouse are five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and five reception rooms. It also has 126-foot-long garden and a 348-square-foot cottage. The Windsor home that rose from the ashes is located on the Park Street. It is close to Windsor Castle and the Great Park. It is currently on the market for £5.5 million or $7,800,000. The property is listed with Savills.
