Keep the blinds drawn

As the saying goes, "out of sight, out of mind." Reduce temptation for would-be burglars by taking a walk around your property to see what's visible from outside and then hide any valuables so they're out of sight. Also, if you know it's going to get dark while you're out, be sure to close the blinds and curtains.

Make sure your landlord has installed new locks

Aside from installing security features inside your apartment, it would also be good not to let anyone enter your apartment without you knowing it, be it a maintenance crew or even your landlord. They might not have any intentions to steal or do something bad, but they might also speak about the things they may see inside your apartment.
