Elizabeth Quay: Perth's New Public Recreation Center, More Attractions to Come in the Future

New public spaces of Elizabeth Quay have been revealed just recently and there is more coming in the future.

According to Commercial Real Estate, the newly opened entertainment and tourism zone may have graced Perth with exciting varieties of family-friendly activities, including nightly laser, light and water shows but the rest of the $2.6 billion waterfront has yet to start development. The development was started in April 2012 at the Esplanade Reserve with the aim to revamp the city shores by reconnecting the central business district (CBD)

The mixed-use development zone reportedly will include public attractions surrounded by residential apartments, hotel spaces, and commercial spaces that will be used for offices or retail outlets. The State Government has financed $440 million, but the $2.2 billion is expected to come from private investors.

According to Commercial Real Estate, Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority chief executive Kieran Kinsella has reported that the infrastructure had been completed as financially planned. Moreover she said that is has been projected that four million people will visit Elizabeth Quay every year.

The entrance of the bay showcases a 110m-long, double-arch suspension bridge for pedestrians and cyclists         while the granite stonework was made for the public walk ways. At the center of he development is a water-filled 2.7-hectare cove, which itself is an attraction

Mr Kinsella said, "When the Elizabeth Quay public realm opens, visitors will be able to enjoy the inlet with short-stay boat moorings, promenades and the landing at the top of the inlet, a new island destination in the centre of the inlet, featuring a sculpture of Bessie Rischbieth and a children's nature-based playground. The BHP Billiton Water Park and a number of public art pieces including Spanda, First Contact and the Signature Ring will also be available."

The other parts of the development are expect to complete at least in 2018.
