The National Real Estate Investor discussed the top ranking states in the country that are perfect retirement locations, as listed by WalletHub. The cost of living, health care and quality of life are the criteria used to find out which are the most ideal when it comes to retirement in 2016.
Coming in at third is South Dakota. This state, where Mount Rushmore is found, ranks 14 in cost of living and 29 in the quality of life. However, South Dakota has the most attractive health care plan all over the country. This is especially important to older individuals who might need frequent visits to the hospital or are in need of medical supplements. Add to this, the state is also fifth in employment rate for people who are over 65 years old.
The second best state for retirement is Wyoming, which is number 16 in health care and 28 in quality of life. When it comes to the cost of living, Wyoming is number one. Thus, a retiring person who wants to stretch their budget will find it easier to live in this state. Many retirees choose to live in the counties of Casper, Cheyenne and Jackson Hole.
Florida is the best state for retirement in 2016. It ranks fifteenth in health care. However, when it comes to affordability and quality of life, this Sunshine State ranks number two and three, respectively. It also has the highest rate of residents who are 65 years old and older.
Meanwhile, the worst cities to retire in 2016 include Hawaii, District of Columbia and Rhode Island, according to Black Enterprise.
