Trinity Place Complex’s New Look and New Name

The plans for the former Syms complex at 28-42 Trinity Place have been finalized for the redevelopment, which will bear a new name as 77 Greenwich Street.

The 500-foot-tall glass condominium tower to be built in the site will have a new grammar school and a retail space of 7,000 square feet on the ground level, as reported by the NY Post.

Despite of rumors that have spread that the project will be a super-tall structure of 1,000 feet, it will just be half of that height and much less expensive to construct. The building will still have harbor views, as well.

Trinity Palace Holdings President and CEO Matthew Messinger says, "There were a lot of fun rumors."

Leading the Trinity team is the former Forest City exec who will start the move in shoveling the ground for the 285,000-square-foot development.

With the inclusion of the school, the lowest residential floors will start at 150 feet up, so that every unit will have a water view, Messinger said.

The roof deck is among other amenities. The lower portion of the building will also have a bike storage and space for a dog spa. "I've been surprised [by] how many dogs are in the neighborhood," observed Messinger.

Elizabeth Berger Plaza, which is across the street, is named after the late head of the Downtown Alliance. It is also being remodeled into a half-acre park.

The condo tower is likely to be completed in 2019 and will probably start well over $2,000 to $3,000 per square foot.

According to NY Curbed, the site at 42 Trinity Place, which is bounded by Greenwich, Rector and Edgar streets where the former Syms complex stood, will finally be redeveloped to build a 500-foot condo tower.

The structure that will be built in the site is a 285,000 tower with a nine-story grade school that will occupy beginning from its base. There will be about 85 condo units to start at 150 feet up.
