Gilles Belley Design: French Designer Launches Modular Furniture Systems Called 'Rooms'

French designer Gilles Belley recently released a new furniture system that he calls "Rooms."

On his official website, Belley explained the concept behind his project.

"The idea is to condense the scale of the furnishings to incorporate modes of functioning that overlap from one room to several rooms; putting the living space into the furniture," he said.

According to Design & Trend, Belley's collection is made up of three different modular systems which he calls "Wall," "Block" and "Area."

"Area works within the concept of a 'room within a room.' This semi-enclosed space allows the user to withdraw from a larger crowd without being interrupted. It is made up of two main elements: the portal frame and the floor where the rest of the elements are locked into," the publication noted.

Block, on the other hand, is spaces within a spatial arrangement. "The front elevations show a set of storage shelves. Sandwinched between the modules is a sleeping space which can be accessed through a set of stairs," the publication stated.

Lastly, the Wall is what can divide a room into several spaces so various activities may take place at the same time.

"This system is made up of folding vertical modules. The modules are decked with slots which can carry consoles and tablets. With this type of assembly, the components make the structure more rigid and the space more defined," the publication added.

In other news, Belley's "Rooms" has become one of the major highlights of the VIADESIGN 2016, an event that discovers and celebrates French furniture design. As of late, Belley has been awarded with the Carte Blanche Grant recognition that makes it possible for him to research and create designs based on how people live their lives in the present time.
