'Samsung Galaxy S6' Release Date, Features & Specs: Leaks Reveal Two Models, Will It Be Like the iPhone 6? [Rumors]

The newest Samsung Galaxy S device is rumored to have a major overhaul.

According to Forbes, the new Galaxy S6 expected to drop next year offers radical changes. Similar to Apple's iPhone 6 launched in September, the site notes that the device may actually launch two S6 models.

The difference, notes SamMobile, is while the Apple iPhone launched two devices, the size was the major difference between the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S6 will have a variant, the ingenious Galaxy S6 Edge, inspired by the Galaxy Note Edge launched earlier this year.

The Note Edge sports the same specs and features as the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 phablet but the right side of the panel is a curved display that works independently from the main screen mainly for quick apps and smart notifications.

The smartphone redesign was widely reported following the less than stellar performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5 launched in 2014. The Samsung's Galaxy S6, codenamed "Project Zero", is claimed to have been developed following the decline in sales of the Galaxy S5 when compared to its predecessors. Project Zero is believed the be the South Korean company's effort at going back to the drawing board and redesigning their flagship smartphone line.

One of Samsung's features that it's focused on to remain ahead of its competition is curved displays. SamMobile reported that "Samsung will be launching a variant of the Galaxy S6 with a curved display, called the Galaxy S6 Edge."

The Galaxy S6 is expected to come with a Quad HD with a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels, either a 64-bit Exynos 7420 or Snapdragon 810 processor and a camera that will sport somewhere between a 16 and 20-megapixel rear camera. It goes on to estimate the device will be supported with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, typical expandable internal storage, and possibly, Broadcom's new BCM4773 sensor chip.

Apple and Samsung continue to dominate the world of smartphones. With Apple's iPhone 6, its most physically altered device yet, versus Samsung's new-age curved display technology, 2015 looks to be an interesting year for rival tech giants.
