'Fantastic Four' Reboot Synopsis Revealed, Film to Re-Imagine Superhero Team

Superhero fans will be delighted to know more details have surfaced regarding the upcoming "Fantastic Four" reboot.

The film concluded filming in August but no official photo, trailer or poster have been released for the film. The studio has been very quiet with regards to movie details, until now.

According to website Rotten Tomatoes, 20th Century Fox's official synopsis reads: "THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy."

The new film seems to offer a new take on the foursome's origin story. The original film, which starred Jessica Alba as Sue Storm, Ioan Gruffudd as Reed Richards, Chris Evans as Johnny Storm, and Michael Chiklis as Ben Grimm, the four characters, attained their superhuman powers through exposure to cosmic rays while in outer space, noted Empire Online.

In the reboot, to star Miles Teller (Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic), Kate Mara (Sue Storm/Invisible Girl), Michael B. Jordan (Johnny Storm/The Human Torch) and Jamie Bell (Ben Grimm/The Thing), the origin of the superheros will be altered to be more "modern" and realistic.

Under the direction of Josh Trank, movie goers will also see actor Toby Kebbell take on the role of Dr. Doom while Reg E. Cathey will bring Dr. Franklin Storm to life. Lastly, Tim Blake Nelson will play Harvey Elder, aka The Mole Man, noted ComingSoon.net.

Jordan, playing the role of Torch told IGN in an earlier interview that the upcoming version of "Fantastic Four" will be more "grounded." He continued to say: "It'll be about the characters. We're getting down to the nuts and bolts of acting, with this larger-than-life 'bigger world' idea. So it's going to be pretty cool."

Entertainment Weekly reports that there is a planned sequel for the yet-to-be-released reboot for 2017. Additionally, there is also the possibility that the Fantastic Four franchise could cross-over to the highly-popular X-Men franchise.

Related to the more realistic plot mentioned by Jordan, EW recalled a persistent rumor that the movie's villain, Dr. Doom, will be remade to be a modern day blogger named Doom.

With the release of the official synopsis, it's a pretty safe bet other promotional materials, especially an official trailer, will be hitting the airwaves soon enough.

Stay tuned for more updates.

The new "Fantastic Four" film is set for release on August 7, 2015.
