PlayStation 20 Years: Best PS Games Ever - PS 1, PS 2, PS3 & PS4!

Sony celebrates its 20th year since the original PlayStation was launched in Japan on December 3, 1994, and as a celebration of the iconic consoles anniversary, Digital Spy pointed out 20 games that helped make PlayStation a success.

Racing game "Wipeout," with its combination of style, sound and visuals, was one of the crowd favorites after it was released in 1995, according to GameSpot. It was initially launched by Sony for the Playstation desk consoles, but has later on became available for PlayStation Portable and PlayStation Vita.

The year after, PlayStation released "Crash Bandicoot," which competed with Nintendo's "Super Mario Bros." and Sega's "Sonic." But following years of declining sales, "Bandicoot" was phased out and rumors of a return are rife.

In 1997, "Tomb Raider" was released, and since the Lara Croft game was a huge success, Sony followed it up with "Tomb Raider 2", which was a bigger success that the original.

During the same year, Sony brought "Final Fantasy VII" into the gaming console, turning an already popular Japanese series into a global sensation.

"Resident Evil 2" was released in 1998, and the game which is set in Raccoon City gave players the chance to fight terrifying enemies.

"Tekken 3" was also released in 1998, and with the gripping storyline of each characters, some describe the game as the "greatest brawlers of all time."

Another great game released by PlayStation is "Metal Gear Solid." Released in 1999, the game is easily one of the best ever made not only in terms of its video graphics, but also because of its masterful storytelling, according to Joystiq.

"Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2" was made available for PlayStation in 2000 and is said to be better than the original because of more hidden secrets within the game.

In 2001, "GTA 3" and "Gran Turismo 3" was released for PlayStation 2 and both received rave reviews from critics with its excellent graphics.

PlayStation 2 also had "Amplitude" in 2003 and is tagged as one of the most entertaining music games launched ever.

In 2005 and 2006, "God of War" and "Shadow of the Colossus" was made available in PlayStation 2.

"God of War" features an epic battle against monsters while "Shadow of Colossus" is described as "an emotionally charged game that will leave a lasting impression on anybody who sees it through to its shocking conclusion," according to IGN.

"Persona 4" was made available for PS 2 in 2008, and shortly after, PS3 was released and the game "Little Big Planet" became an instant success.

In 2010, the game that paved the way for the "Dark Souls" series, "Demon's Souls" was released for PS3, a year after "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves" became available.

Also in 2010, PS3 released "Heavy Rain" which took narrative storytelling to a different level and helped put PlayStation in the map.

Two years later, PS 3 made "Journey" available on its console, and allowed players to navigate through a faraway land.

And this year, "The Last of Us: Remastered" became available for PS 4, proving once again that the iconic gaming console stands out among its competition, according to Digital Spy.
