Are you living in a constricted space and wish to make it look larger than its real size? You can do this without having to break the bank to extend your floor size.
A charming elfin home or room could be a good thing but over time, you might start feeling like the walls are closing in on you. If you dream of bringing the spacious feel of the outdoors to your room, then you just have to do a few tweaks.
Experts have always been suggesting that to give your room a larger space illusion, use mirrors. Reflections are very important especially if they are cleverly positioned on the right spot, Southeast Missourian said.
According to Maxwell Ryan, ApartmentTherapy.com founder, mirrors "let your eye travel beyond the room. If you could have a floor-to-ceiling mirror installed, that would be ideal. If not, you could include a nice looking mirror at a place where it could reflect a part of the room. Aside from mirrors, you could paint your ceilings with glossy paint finishes to give you the height-trick.
The next tip is more about common sense, than an expert advice. Go easy on the furniture. Remodelista mentioned that you should never place a large statement piece on the floor. For example, if your living area is not too big, then choose pieces of furniture that won't eat up the space. Make sure that there are spaces in between couches and walls for that airier feel. If you cannot live without a statement piece, hang it on the wall instead and let the floor breathe.
In relation to the second tip, a small room looking large can be achieved by having a big statement piece. Like what was mentioned, hang a big piece of art on your wall, or install a curtain that runs from the ceiling to just a few inches above the floor. One huge statement as opposed to having big pieces or small pieces of furniture all throughout could trick you into thinking that the space is bigger than its real size.
Lastly, lighting is everything. Ryan said that the eyes only go where there is light, so make sure that your room is bright and has no shadows. Be sure to have at least three lighting fixtures in every small room, ceiling lights not included. Place them in three points of the room and voila! You will have instant impression of a bigger space.
