"Pirates of the Caribbean 5," led by actor Johnny Depp, is close to completing its official cast as talks are ongoing with Brenton Thwaites and Javier Bardem to join the film, Air Herald reported.
Thwaites and Bardem are undergoing negotiations with Walt Disney, but while "Pirates" is finding the perfect actors to join Depp, there may be complications on the horizon. There is a chance that the trailer or even the movie itself will be delayed as Disney has to split its focus and its leading man with their upcoming sequel to the 2010 film "Alice in Wonderland."
"Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass" is slated to be released on May 27, 2016, a film which also stars Depp, according to KPop Starz.
Depp is resuming his role as the Mad Hatter, joining Mia Wasikowska as Alice, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen. Other actors and actresses will be reprising their vocal roles, such as Toby Jones, Stephen Fry, Timothy Spall, Michael Sheen and Alan Rickman; while new cast members are Rhys Ifans and Sacha Baron Cohen.
It has been reported that principal photography has already begun on the "Alice in Wonderland" sequel with shooting following closely at the Shepperton Studios in England.
The "Pirates" film, on the other hand, is currently in pre-production in Australia. They are also awaiting their complete cast as well as preparing for the release of the official trailer for its planned July 7, 2017 release.
With both movies being prepared and with their respective trailers still being waited on, it seems like Depp and Disney are definitely going to find themselves busy. Also "Alice in Wonderland" is set to be released first, so Depp and Disney may find themselves cutting time off their obligations for "Pirates."
Disney is also busy with more upcoming films, according to Business Insider. "Finding Dory" is set to be released on June 17, 2016, while their collaboration with Marvel Studios will result in two more movies that year, "Captain America 3" on May 6, 2016 and the as of yet untitled Doctor Strange film on July 8, 2016.
With a lot of films set for release on the year before 2017's "Pirates of the Caribbean 5," fans can only hope that despite Depp and Disney's busy schedules, the film and trailer will be released timely for all the "Pirates" fans.
Should Bardem and Thwaites sign up with Disney, they will be starring alongside Depp, who plays Captain Jackson Sparrow, and Geoffrey Rush, who plays Captain Hector Barbossa, according to Air Herald.
Thwaites, who played Prince Phillip in "Maleficent," is in talks to play Henry, a British soldier. Henry is reportedly a replacement for the character of Will Turner, played by Orlando Bloom, with whom talks fell through on the possibility of reprising his role.
Bardem on the other hand, known for his villainous turn in the Bond film "Skyfall," is in talks to play another villainous role for "Pirates of the Caribbean 5." There has been no news yet on his possible role in the film.
