Walt Disney's EPCOT Builder John Tishman Dies at 90

Who would ever forget the man whose company build the famous World Trade Center in New York City? That person was none other than John Tishman who was also the builder behind the Walt Disney's EPCOT center in Florida. The famous builder died at the age of 90, Fox News reports, and no doubt he will always be remembered throughout the history of real estate.

According to a family spokesperson, John P. Gallagher, Tishman reportedly died of respiratory failure in his home in Bedford 35 miles north of New York, Saturday.

Tishman served the U.S. Navy before he got into the family construction business in 1948. In 1967, with his company, Tishman Realty & Construction, he took charge of building the unforgettable World Trade Center's Twin Towers amidst criticisms. The Twin Towers were bombed on Sept. 11, 2001. His company also oversaw the construction of the 1,100-foot John Hancock Center, a skyscraper, in Chicago.

According to NY Times, the Carnegie Hall on West 57th Street and the New Amsterdam Theater on West 42nd Street were revamped under the management of Tishman's company. In 1976, Rockefeller Center Inc. acquired the construction division of the Tishman business. The family bought it back in 1980 and then John Tishman became chairman and chief executive of the construction company.

The famous Tishman logo, which is a "T" made of a steel beam and column, is mostly present in his major projects throughout the country including Madison Square Garden in New York, Century City in Los Angeles, and the Renaissance Center in Detroit. The Twin Towers and the John Hancock Center are known in history as three of the world's earliest skyscrapers.

Josh Tishman married Suzanne Weisberg in 1953, five years after joining the family's construction business. She died in 2005. Tishman is survived by his two children and three grandchildren.
