Shanna Tellerman is the founder and CEO of Modsy, a company that helps people with their redecorating needs all in one app - may it be designing the space, looking for furniture, or just shopping for some décor. Not only does the mobile app help make it easier for users to redesign their space, but it also makes the experience a lot more fun!
In fact, it was just last week when the one-year-old company announced that it had concluded a Series A funding round - it garnered $8 million - that was led by Norwest Venture Partners. Modsy now has an overall funding of $11.75 million.
What's great about Modsy is that it allows users to see various designs of a space "in the context of their own homes." Not only that, but the renderings are very realistic too, making it much easier for users to visualize the room's outcome.
"Every other major purchase we make in our life, we test first," Tellerman explained. "We test-drive a car or try on clothes beforehand, but we take wild guesses at home and hope they all go together."
So how does the Modsy app work? FastCompany reports:
"Here's how it works: Users take a quick quiz to determine their personal design aesthetic. Then they snap a few pictures of the room that needs touching up and send them, along with the room's dimensions, to the Modsy team. Right now the tool is in closed beta, so this process happens via email, but at launch, it will all take place inside the app itself. Within 48 hours, users get a 'lookbook' - a digital mockup of their space redesigned with new furniture and décor to fit their tastes. If a user likes anything they see, they can buy it through Modsy or be redirected to the manufacturer's website. Products come from a variety of retailers, including Ikea and Resotration Hardware. Modsy gets a commission from every sale."
One of the more notable features about the app is its ability to give users a 360-degree mobile tour of the newly designed room. There's no need to worry about sentimental décor either - Modsy takes note of which pieces in the room are personal, and incorporates it into the new design.
