Freeport LNG Development Boss Bought a Penthouse in Tribeca for $30M

Natural gas billionaire Michael S. Smith has purchased another property in New York City. Just after the news that the Freeport LNG Development chairman and chief executive officer is closing a deal for Lily Pond Lane Hampton's properties, he has reportedly acquired a penthouse in 250 West Street in Tribeca.

According to Page Six, the same publication that exclusively revealed the record-breaking $110 million sale of Lily Pond Lane properties, Smith has paid $30 million for the sprawling pad. The penthouse measures 7,200 square feet, with a wraparound, landscaped terrace of 4,350 square feet with a view of the Hudson River and the skyline beyond. It has its private entrance and elevator.

The penthouse has four bedrooms, four and a half baths, and a six-person Jacuzzi. Its master bedroom features a walk-in closet, a steam shower and infrared sauna. It has a library and a living with double-sided ethanol burning fireplace. The dining room has an adjoining kitchen with an island and walnut cabinetry, Miele appliances and Calacatta Gold marble counter tops and backsplashes, as described in Douglas Elliman's listing.

It has been on and off in the market since 2013, when it was listed for $42 million. It underwent price cuts to $39.5 million in November 2013 and then $33 million in October last year. Leonardo DiCaprio was rumored to have purchased the property back in 2013, which Shawn Sachs of Sunshine Sachs clarified with Tribeca Citizen to be untrue.

The three Hamptons properties are located in 93 Lily Pond Lane, 101 Lily Pond Lane and 97 Lily Pond Lane, which hedge funder Scott Bommer bought in 2014 for $93.9 million from telecommunications executive Allen Salmasi and financier Maurice Cunniffe. These include a 1914 five-bedroom house with 4,500 square feet of space and an oceanfront which measures 284 feet.
