Target is set to release Pillowfort, a non-gender specific line of children's furniture, as reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
The new collection consists of stuffed toys, pillow chairs, teepees, and other bedroom essentials that will appeal to both girls and boys.
Shades of blue and pink are still used in the pieces, but most of the newer ones will focus on landscape-inspired themes, like forest, ocean and space. According to Target, over 1,200 pieces already fall into Pillowfort's many design motifs, such as Tropical Treehouse, Ocean Oasis and Stellar Station.
Julie Guggemos, Target Senior Vice President of Design and Product Development, has stated that the design choices reflect their support for children's individual expression. They developed the collection to be universally gender-neutral. It will continue Target's efforts towards more inclusive kids products. They have also removed the gender labels from their toy sections since last Fall, as reported by the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Brian Cornell, Target Chief Executive, has said that they are making sure to deliver the right products and content based on feedback from their customers.
Target is also planning to restyle their children's clothing line after Pillowfort's launch. The new apparel will not be entirely genderless, but will use similar patterns and themes.
Pillowfort will launch on Feb. 21, with the furnitures to arrive later this Summer.
The collection will have:
- Beddings, pillows, and decor available for $5 up to $60
- Furniture and other bedroom paraphernalia will be available for $40 up to $600
- Some of the popular pieces among customers are the Anchor Marquee Light for $30
- Bulldog Table Lamp for $30
- Cactus Throw Pillow for $17
- Car Shelf for $30
- Fox Throw Pillow for $17
- Bear Wall Art for $15
- Ice Cream Cone Throw Pillow for $17
- Column Floor Lamp for $40
While it is fine to indulge in trends from time to time, it is also recommended to stick to pieces that are timeless. After all, home decors are worth keeping for life, not meant to be given away when the trend goes out of time.
