Champions League Results & Highlights: Real Madrid Win 19th Straight, Liverpool Crash Out of Competition

Real Madrid will advance to the next round with a perfect group-stage record, while Liverpool crashed out of UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Real Madrid formalized their entry to the knockout stage with a 4-0 drubbing of Ludogorets Razgrad in front of more than 50,000 fans inside the Bernabeu in Spain. The win was the club's 19th straight victory - a new Spanish record.

Cristiano Ronaldo opened up the scoring parade when he netted their first goal of the match off a penalty after defender Marcelinho was handed a red card for a handball. The goal was Ronaldo's 72nd Champions League goal, surpassing the previous record held by Raul, which was recently broken by Lionel Messi.

Gareth Bale joined the scoring parade after netting a goal in the 38th minute, while Alvaro Arbeola and Alvaro Medran also score one apiece for Real Madrid, who swept their group - the same feat achieved by the club under Jose Mourinho in 2012.

Meanwhile, Liverpool FC failed to advance to the knockout stages of this season's Champions League.

Needing a win to move on to the next round, Liverpool FC settled for a 1-1 draw against FC Basel at Anfield in England, which saw them bidding goodbye to their Champions League title hopes this season.

Fabian Frei gave FC Basel a crucial 1-0 lead with a goal in the 25th minute. Liverpool then took a blow 16 minutes after when Lazar Markovic was sent off, leaving the Reds with just 10 players.

Steven Gerrard then gave Liverpool some hope when he netted a free kick in the 81st minute, but they failed to score another one, which could have propelled them to the knockout stages of the tournament.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who had high hopes for his club heading into the tournament, was disappointed for failing to lead his club to the next round. The Red played without strikers Daniel Sturridge and Mario Balotelli, but Rodgers said that they "can't have any excuses" about their failure to qualify.

"We had enough games," Rodgers said. "The big game was away in Basel where we were disappointing. If you deserve to go through, you go through. For us it is simple: we haven't been good enough over the course of the competition to go through. We have to take it on the chin."
