The newest installment of Terminator will feature time travel, as usual, and the team behind the film is making sure all the details are on point.
As seen in the "Terminator: Genisys" trailer recently released, the outfit of Jai Courtney is nearly identical to the clothes worn by Michael Biehn in the original Terminator film, reported IGN.
iO9 notes that for the film, costume designer Susan Matheson requested Nike for Courtney's Kyle Reese. Nike tried to put one over the designer and sent her a similar looking show made with parts used from other shoes.
Getting the details right, especially securing the right sneaker, was no easy task for Matheson. She recanted what she went through to ensure that Nike will recreate the Kyle's sneakers exactly.
"Nike wanted me to design an ID, like something using the Air Force One base," explained Susan via IGN, "but I'm a sneaker person, and I know every single base of every sneaker. The Air Force One base is not the same as a Nike Vandal."
She continued: "I said, 'No. I'm not going to do that. I need you to make me the real sneaker,' because, I said, 'Everybody watching this movie is going to know if it's the real sneaker or the non-real sneaker.' Anyone who is a fan of Terminator knows that sequence and knows the photo booth and knows him grabbing the jacket and knows that he's taken the pants off the bum in the alley... So for me, if I can't give you the real sneaker, then I might as well not do the movie, right?"
It took a bit of dialogue and negotiation between the production team and Nike and when it began to drag on, Matheson called on Paramount to take action.
"I spoke to Paramount and I said to them, 'You have got to help me make this happen.' To me, the single greatest moment on this entire [production] was when Nike said they were going to stop production in the line and make me the sneaker from scratch. So they made me the sneaker, the original, exact replica of the original sneaker," she concluded.
"When you [watch] the movie, don't think it doesn't look like the original, because it is. I'm sure people online are going to be like, 'That's not the original!' It is!"
While most people wouldn't notice such a fine detail, there are hard-core "Terminator" fans that would easily point out the fact.
"Terminator Genisys" featuring franchise star Arnold chwarzenegger lands in theaters on July 1, 2015.
