iOS 8.1.2 Update Available: No Solutions Provided For Major iOS 8 Bugs?

Apple has released the update for the iOS 8.1.2 for its various devices, including the iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.

While the Cupertino-based firm has been plagued with a number of bugs relating to its newest operating system, according to the release, the update only seems to address ringtones being removed from devices.

Apple writes that "This release includes bug fixes and addresses a problem where ringtones purchased through the iTunes Store may have been removed from your device. To restore these ringtones, visit https://itunes.com/restore-tones from your iOS device."

It was only last month when Apple released the iOS 8.1.1 update that was similar to this one, minimal and fixes minor bugs in the system, notes Geek.com.

The update has been made available for all devices utilizing the iOS 8 system. The devices that can avail of the update include iPhone 4S until the newest device, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, along with the iPad 2 to 4, mini 1 to 3, both models of the iPad Air as well as the fifth-generation iPod touch.

Substantial Updates Needed

In a separate report by Forbes, some of the common issues which have yet to be resolved include crippled WiFi, Bluetooth bugs that stall connection to headsets and car kits as well as poor battery performance.

"In this context Apple's decision to address a ringtones bug first will no doubt cause anger, regardless of whether it is low hanging fruit," analyzed the publication.

The settings should automatically alert Apple users but for those who are going to manually update, head over to Settings > General > Software Update. From there, simply follow the on-screen instructions. Users may also opt to install the update through iTunes on their PC or Mac. The update is made available when the device is connected to the computer.

The 8.1.2 is a relatively small update, only 28.2 MB and should be a cinch to load and install.

Phone Arena claims that a major update is coming soon. Based on their info, Apple has already seeded iOS 8.2 to developers and is expected to support the upcoming iWatch to be released in the Spring of 2015.

As a reminder, ensure that you have at least 50% battery before installing, if not, you will be prompted to plug in your device. Likewise, prior to any update, it's always best to back up your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch before installing any updates to ensure all your data will be preserved.
