In a report last month, SamMobile's sources indicated that the Galaxy S6 is in the early stages of development and that with the code name "Project Zero," a deviation from it's typical codenames, "Samsung is probably developing its next-generation flagship device from scratch, with an entirely new vision, hence the codename."
With the Samsung Galaxy S5 released earlier this year not performing to its expectations, the world moves on to speculate what the Galaxy S6 will have under the hood to make up for its predecessor's lackluster release.
The Galaxy S5 was released during the first quarter of 2014 meaning we could be seeing the next-generation galaxy smartphone in a matter of weeks.
It's widely believed that the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be the South Korean firm's "next big thing," notes Gottabemobile.com. Word around town is that Samsung has dubbed the new Galaxy S phone as "Project Zero," the company's attempt to go back to the drawing board and overhaul the series.
Specs and Features
Based on the specs already carried by the Samsung Galaxy S5, Phandroid speculates that the phone will come equipped with loaded with the newest Android 5.0 Lollipop, boosted by the TouchWiz expected to have a new theme engine.
Additionally, the Samsung Galaxy S6 is said to have a Quad HD 2560×1440 resolution display, along with a new and improved 64-bit Exynos 7420 or Snapdragon 810 processor allowing for a more powerful and efficient multitasking.
Other specs include either a 16 or 20MP rear camera that will be supported by a 5MP front-facing camera. It will have either a 32, 64, or 128 GB storage capacity options as well as a 5.3-inch or 5.5-inch display panel.
Specs Leak on AnTuTu
Benchmarking software AnTuTu has provided more solid evidence on the rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 with an alleged screen shot of specs released recently.
Similar to the rumored specs outlined above, the photo outlines a 5.5in QHD display with a pixel resolution of 1440 x 2560, Exynos 7420 (64bit Octa-core) chipset and out-of-box Android 5.0 Lollipop system. The specs also detail 3 GB of RAM, a Mali-T760 GPU, 20 MP front sensor and 5 MP rear shooter.
Release Date
According to the folks over at SamMobile, it is believed that the Galaxy S6 will be launched alongside another S6 model, the Galaxy S6 Edge. Like the timing of the S5, many expect the S6 to land during the first quarter, around the time of the MWC 2015.
With the next quarter marking a year since the launch of the Samsung Galaxy S5, Samsung is expected to begin mass-production over the next few weeks.
Stay tuned for more.
