Top Winners of the Annual Building of the Year Awards

Art is life and architects could not be any prouder of being the ones to put more life to it through their architectural designs.

Winners of the Building of the Year Awards held annually are announced just recently by Arch Daily.

The contenders have submitted their own architectural projects as part of the judging. In fact, more than 3,000 projects were submitted. The buildings have to be beautifully and creatively engineered and should significantly be of service to the architects' community, as per criteria.

Among the many aspiring title holders, only 14 buildings were spotted to deserve the award with categories ranging from retail offices to religious infrastructures. These top chosen buildings have bagged the title because of their innovative structural designs -- from a simple store that turned into a skateboarder's paradise to other more innovative and modern structures, as per The Real Deal. What's even noteworthy about these structures is that they are designed by these creative architects in certain parts of the world that are less developed.

So, here are the three of the best structures that bagged the Best Building of the Year Awards, the architectural gems across the globe.

Ribbon Chapel, Japan

With an area of 80 square meters, this religious architecture developed in 2013 by NAP Architects is located in Japan. Dubbed as "two spirals become one," this chapel is used for weddings and stands specifically in Bella Vista Sakaigahama resort hotel in Onomichi, Hiroshima. The two spiral stairways are designed to portray the act of marriage, as per Arch Daily.

School of Architecture at the Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden

Developed in 2015, this educational architecture by Tham & Videgård Arkitekter stands on a 9,140 square meters of lot area in Stockholm, Sweden. The structure is designed to depict its historical and cultural context. This new school is inserted in a courtyard space, adjacent to the monumental brick buildings which are early 20th century-inspired, built around the area.

Factory in the Earth, Malaysia

With an area of 25,141 square meters, this industrial architecture designed by Ryuichi Ashizawa Architect & Associates lies in Johor Bahru, Johor, Malaysia. Developed in 2013, this building has designs that portray rationality and productivity and is inspired by the factories in the 19th century.
