It's always the small things that count. Doing bits of house improvements can be surprisingly refreshing. But, if you have old and rusty air vents, then you should consider doing bits of things to make them look beautiful. You can use a wide array of materials to beautify them. Here are some simple steps for you to jump start this home improvement project.
Materials you will need to grab from your favorite hardware stores:
- 1″ x 2″ Wood (Though you don't necessarily need to buy one for this. Remember that you can recycle old things.)
- 24″ x 36″ Stamped Sheet
- Metal and Wood Glue
- Eight (8) Small Nails & a Nail Gun (or a hammer)
- Spray Paint Primer and Spray Paint
- Two (2) Kinds of Saws, namely a Table Saw and a Miter Saw
- Nails, a Hammer, a Drill, and Screws
Steps:
-
Don't forget to remove the air vents first so you can get all the measurements you need.
-
Prepare to make the frame out of the wood pieces you have. Make sure to get the measurements right.
-
Add a slot with a ½" groove for all of the pieces of wood that you are to use for the four sides of the vent.
-
Grab your miter saw to add a 45 degree angle for each of the ends. Check if the longer edges match the measurement of the air vent. Making a mistake on this step could result to an unbalanced frame.
-
Glue the pieces of the wood and the air vent edges together carefully.
-
Using a clamp, hold the two materials together to ensure that they are glued properly. Use nails to secure them even more.
-
Trim your sheet metal so they fit the dimension of the interior dimension of the wooden frame. Glue them afterwards.
-
For the finishing part, don't forget to sand the frame until it is nice and smooth. After you have successfully assembled the parts, you can paint them with whatever color you prefer. It would be best to match the color with the motif in your house.
