Brooklyn Brewery Eyes New Space, Relocates

Brooklyn Brewery is eyeing on a new space to relocate its brewing operation, recent report says.

Located at 79 North 11th Street, Williamsburg, Brooklyn Brewery finds Brooklyn Industry City and Navy Yard as potential spots for their 60,000-square-foot new branch space.

The potential spot specifically at Building 77 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard will have a manufacturing space and a food hall perfect for the brewery. Anchoring the food hall will be Russ & Daughters, the legendary family-run Lower East Side store. Moreover, Industry City at 882 Third Avenue in Sunset Park could also be a good location as it is the waterfront industrial complex that has the city's largest floor plates. Industry City is reportedly attracting tenants from tech tenants to flavor-maker companies, The Real Deal reports.

The current location of Brooklyn Brewery right now is where many of the company's specialty beers are made. Its current space has a retail shop, a tasting room, and a space for visitors who are interested to watch how beers are being made.

Recent news imply that Brooklyn Brewery's relocation is urgent. According to the company's COO and General Manager, Eric Ottaway, their space lease is not up for nine years, citing that there is "zero" possibility to renew. What is more, the 35,000-square-foot warehouse that houses the brewery and others are already placed up for sale last year by Yoel Goldman, the owner himself, as per Crain's.

But, it seems like the brewery's looking for a place to relocate is quite a challenge.

"What is tricky is finding a space where we can do the manufacturing but also have the retail be an important component. It's hard to find a neighborhood that has the level of visibility that Williamsburg has," said Ottaway.

Meanwhile, the brewery also plans to relocate its brewing plant in Utica to Staten Island's 200,000-square-foot facility worth $70 million, according to Crain's.
