New York City Listings: Dome Penthouse Atop Nolita's Police Building Listed for $35M

After three months of being on the market, the dome penthouse which is atop the former NYPD headquarters in Nolita has reduced its asking price to $35 million. According to New York Curbed, the four-bedroom, five-bathroom pad was first listed in November 2015 with an asking price of $40 million.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the domed tower apartment has roughly 5,000 square feet of space, and the property is now listed under real-estate agent Linda G. Calka and Kevin B. Brown of Sotheby's International Realty. The Beaux-Arts-style building was converted to a co-op in the 1980s, and the penthouse was bought by Ahmass Fakahany and his wife Alsun Keogh from renowned fashion designer Calvin Klein in the mid-2000s. Fakahany, who is the former president of Merrill Lynch, has renovated the place since the purchase. The couple also bought the next-door penthouse and worked on combining the two units into one home.

The dome penthouse features a circular living room which high ceilings of roughly 25 feet high. The large windows offer a stunning view of the Empire State Building. It has four sets of French doors which lead to the terraces and balconies. Fakahany said that they converted the space above, which was previously used for clock maintenance, into a living room. They were able to create an entertaining "funky" space where the tower's clocks can be seen and heard up close. There are also steel beams inside the dome that are visible above.

Fakahany is now working as the co-owner of the Altamarea Group, which owns different restaurants, and this include Manhattan's Marea and Vaucluse. His wife owns an architecture and design firm named Nusla Design. The couple said that they are selling the penthouse because they decided not to move in the property.
