Home Design Trends 2016: Ideas for Spring and Things to Ditch This Year

Spring is almost here, and the season ushers in new design ideas for the home. Naturally, as new home design trends arrive this 2016, some old ones will have to be ditched. Here are the spring home design trends that you can incorporate in your home.

According to The Washington Post, velvet is in this spring as the "boho fashion staple" is cropping up in living rooms and bedrooms nowadays. Experts also agree that the material is perfect for every season as it adds texture in any space.

The article also lists bold prints as part of 2016 home design trends this spring, as the patterns easily light up any space. For instance, you can pair a headboard with bold patterns with a monochromatic bed or use plates with bold prints to liven up your kitchen.

Daybeds are also a rising home design trend this 2016, and according to the report, these items are usually found in huge bedrooms, dens, and reading rooms. They add a certain romantic vibe to any space and "represent relaxation, casualness and ease." They can also be used as a guest bed if you don't have enough rooms or for emergency sleepovers.

Glamorous lighting fixtures made up of different materials are also hot this year. According to the report, these lighting fixtures are being used now in various areas of the house, even in kitchens, resting areas or over nightstands. These items add a touch of luxury to any space and add personality to it as well.

Meanwhile, Killeen Daily Herald says that some home design trends will likely fade this year. The online publication cited a Zillow survey where interior design experts stated that mason jars will probably be out this year as the design trend has been overly used last year. Aside from that, it's also best to ditch chalkboard paint this 2016 as part of your home design, whether for a message board or the kids' playroom. "The reality is that the chalkboards can just look messy after a while," the publication noted.
