Here are some tips on how to hang your mirror at home.
According to Elle Décor, the first thing that you need to remember is the fact that not all mirrors are meant to be hung. Robert A. Downs of iLevelArt.com explained, "Some are designed to be leaners. For these pieces, it is noted on the back, and if you do hang it and it breaks, a manufacturer's liability won't cover it."
Meanwhile, Downs also debunked one of the most common things mirror owners do with this piece of home accessory. For most people, mirrors are hung using a nail. However, Downs said that this is most unsafe way of taking care of mirrors because it makes it prone to falling. What he's suggesting is the use of the D hooks or hooks that are shaped as the letter D.
Now, here are some basic tips on how to exactly hang a mirror. If you want to place your mirror on a mantel, "Position it at least 4-5 inches above the top of the mantel. But depending on the thickness of the frame, you may want to go higher so you don't get a dark shadow cast on your décor," the publication noted.
If the mirror is to be placed in the bathroom, "Downs recommends bringing in a professional to add a frame around that mirror for added visual interest," the site said.
In other news, here are some tips on how to hang mirrors over difficult surfaces. "Make sure to pick up special drill bits made exclusively for tile, glass, or concrete," the site advised.
Finally, when it comes to doors, "choose a full-length mirror and position it so it takes up as much of the door as possible. Mirror clips are an easy way to executive this, but Downs recommends confirming that you have a solid core door to work with so hardware will fasten in properly."
