The recently leaked emails from Sony revealed a number of information regarding various celebrities along with planned film projects.
Some tidbits leaked included information on the storylines of upcoming superhero films. According to the Daily Beast, an email sent Sept. 20, 2014 from Michael De Luca, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, to Amy Pascal, co-chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment discussed plans for a major super-hero flick that bring together X-Men and the Fantastic Four teams.
"[Simon] Kinberg told me fox is steering Xmen and Fantastic Four into an eventual team up film," said De Luca in the email. "Seems to me maybe, since the Spider-man universe itself is deep, you guys should look at sinister six, new spidey, female movie and venom as linked pieces leading to eventual mega movie ala Feige and Fox and not stand alone single films. It's early in all these and you can still map out a blueprint for connective tissue."
Back in October Simon Kinberg discussed the hotly rumored crossover with ComicBook.com. He discussed both films individually, called it "intriguing" and that a crossover isn't on the map just yet but is possible.
"To be honest, I'm so focused on each of the movies right, I'm so focused on, now we're post, on Fantastic Four, and making that the best movie it can be. And then we're in prep on X-Men: Apocalypse, so those are kind of full time jobs," said Kinberg.
He further added: "I love the characters, I love the characters in Fan Four, I love the new cast. Obviously I love the characters and cast of X-Men. So, hypothetically, the notion of putting them together is really intriguing, and there's some really fun stuff that the comics have done in the past. So it's not out of the realm of possibility."
The synopsis of "Fantastic Four" was revealed earlier this month will be a "re-imagining" of one of Marvel's longest-running superhero teams. According to the plot summary, per Cinema Blend: "THE FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel's original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy."
To date, no trailers have been released for either film.
"Fantastic Four" is due in theaters on August 7, 2015 while "X-Men: Apocalypse" will be released May 27, 2016.
