'The Notebook,' 'Gone With The Wind' & More Iconic Movie Houses Revealed

A movie's setting can be more iconic than the storyline. Ever wondered where the gorgeous house in your favorite movie is located or how it looks like now? The following are famous historic homes featured in films.

"Under The Tuscan Sun"

The film tells the story of a woman who impulsively moved to Italy, bought an abandoned villa, and renovated it. Diane Lane's character Frances spotted a real estate listing for the Bramasole estate while on vacation. She then falls in love with the old home, despite the fact that it was filled with pigeons, old trash, and rickety plumbing. She instilled the help of some elbow grease, a set of Polish workers, and a bit of soul-searching.

The Tuscan villa used in the movie is real. Since the movie, it has been fully remodeled and available for rent, Hooked on Houses reported.

"Gone With the Wind"

One of the most well-known houses in all of cinema's history is Tara, the fictional Southern plantation from the 1939 movie "Gone with the Wind." It was modeled after post-Civil War Georgian plantations and antebellum structures.

The palatial house featured in the film was actually a set built on a lot in Culver City, California. The original structure traded was passed on several times over the years.

"The Holiday"

In the 2006 film "The Holiday," Iris who lives in the United Kingdom, and Amanda who lives in America, decided to swap houses, so they can both escape their respective heartbreaks. Amanda gets the better deal with Iris' fairytale-inspired country cottage, hidden in a quaint hamlet on the outskirts of London.

Sadly, the cottage is not real. It was a set was built in the middle of a field that was landscaped for the movie.

"The Notebook"

"The Notebook" is considered to be one of the most romantic house renovations ever portrayed on film, House Beautiful reported. The iconic house has blue shutters and a wraparound porch. It is the historic home that Noah renovates in an effort to win back his Allie's love.
