Here's How to Update Your Home on a Budget

Here are some helpful tips on how you can update your home on a tight budget.

Home renovation or remodeling should be done every now and then especially when you feel that you are no longer happy with your property.

However, one of the biggest constraints why people decide to do otherwise is their budget.

House Beautiful recently came up with some helpful tips on how you can reinvent the look and appearance of your home at a truly affordable cost. The publication used a couple's example on how they were able to work around $15,000 for their entire house's renovation.

1. Seek help from family and friends

The homeowners decided to seek the help of their closest friends and family members for the renovation.

Luckily, one of their dads had a contractor friend who was so generous with giving them ideas. One friend of theirs also happened to have some construction experience so he also came in handy with fixing the bathroom.

What's great about asking help from family and friends is the fact that you can immediately cut cost from it.

2. Get rid of anything unnecessary without feeling bad for it

People renovate their home for a reason. If you find that some furniture and products from your old house no longer fits your new house, it's fine to get rid of them.

It is also not a problem if you want to refurbish your furniture or even buy new ones. However, bear in mind that this will cost you more than the budget you allotted earlier.

3. Renovate each part of the house depending on your taste and preference

Each part of the house was also renovated to appeal to the homeowners' liking. Their master bedroom, for instance, received its much-needed upgrade. The couple decided to add a sunroom section to their home which made their old Victorian abode look even more spacious.

However, they also faced multiple problems along the way. For instance, most windows in the house were already old and needed to be changed. The wood flooring is no longer in its best condition.

As such, it took them a much longer time to have the property renovated.

Photos of the before and after of the entire house were also posted on the website.

Remember, remodeling and renovation shouldn't cost you that much if you know how to prioritize and stick to your budget, according to This Old House.
