Phuket Opens The First Luxury Thai Hammam In The World

A trip to a Turkish bath or the hamman, is usually far fetched an idea for a relaxing experience. The sandpaper-like scrubs and the scorching heat are examples of the treatment.

Recently, Amatara Resort & Wellness, a grand hotel situated in Cape Panwa, Phuket, offers a better option. The world's first Thai spa, the Amatrarum, will open next month to provide a combination of Turkish hamman and Thai treatments, along with their salt relaxation room for allergies and asthma, as well as Rhassoul clay treatments to improve the skin and body.

The concept is based on the Turkish and Moroccan hammam tradition, which is combined in a uniquely Thai spirit when it comes to massage technique and service delivery, Destination Thailand News reported.

Inside the Amatarum, the experience begins with a ritual bath using Thai herbs for rejuvenation and tissue cleansing. After this, waterfall or the jet blast rinse and aromatic floral sauna and steam will be given. According to the hotel's wellness director, Phoebe Boonkerd, the body's exposure to cold and heat can stimulate the immune system and improve the circulation, detoxification through the skin and the basal metabolic rate.

When the skin becomes soft, a complete body exfoliation will be given next, along with a  massage on a warm stone bed. The Amatarum massage is done with authentic organic from Morocco and its therapeutic massage has a powerful Thai influence.

After this, a soothing and detoxifying moor mud bath will be offered. The moor mud is made from flowers, herbs and grasses turned into a paste with high concentration of minerals, vitamins, amino acids, humic and fulvic acids.

After rinsing, the last stage is the Himalayan Salt cave,  where negative ions are said to release into the air through the salt-clad cave that is helpful to the respiratory system.

Amatara used to be the old Regent Hotel in Phuket, and was re-branded into its current name to become the only posh health destination in Phuket, Billionaire reported.
