House Rental: Here's a Look at a Portuguese Retreat House for Tourists

Here's a look at a beautiful house in Portuguese retreat house that is perfect for relaxation. House owner Eugenia Silva recently dished on what it was like owning a retreat house and why she was inspired to get another one.

While speaking with Elle Décor, Silva said, "About six years ago, Luis, my best friend and the decorator of my homes in Extremadura and Formentera, and now godfather to my son Alfonsito, started talking to me about Comporta."

Comporta is somewhat similar to the Hamptons because it also boasts a range of small villages with a seafaring and agricultural past. What makes Comporta and the Hamptons different is the fact that the renovations are limited in the former. This is so that they could preserve the area's remote and rustic character.

According to Argentine designer Luis Galliussi, "For such a hyper-chic crowd, the true luxury is getting to go everywhere barefoot, and stopping for drinks after the beach without going home first to do yourself up."

Silva said that she was extremely impressed when she visited Comporta because it was exactly how her good friend described it.

"Of course, Luis was right. It felt like this incredible discovery, a refuge of peace, with the dunes and the ocean on one side and forests and rice fields on the other," she said.

Galliussi and Silva also talked about the design of the latter's home as well as some of the features that can be found in the property. According to the former, "Since everything in the summer happens outside, we created the terraces to blend into the dunes on which the house sits, so it feels even more integrated with nature."

If you are looking to build your own retreat house, you can definitely find inspiration from the one Silva owns.
