Yasiel Puig News: Baseball Player Sues Home Insurance Company After House Flood

Yasiel Puig, the Cuban baseball right fielder of Los Angeles Dodger in Major League Baseball (MLB), has been in hot water last fall for an alleged assault in a Miami club. While recent reports state that he won't be punished for the incident, the MLB athlete is set for a different fight -- this time with his home insurance as he was literally "underwater" in his Miami mansion when his refrigerator's water supply broke down.

TMZ exclusively reports that Puig's insurance company is refusing to pay him for the damages in his home due to the flood that took place last November. According the lawsuit filed by the Dodgers outfielder, the water supply of his refrigerator broke down, which resulted in the flooding of his Miami house and incurred damages to his property amounting to over $15,000.

It was said that Puig reported the incident immediately to the Lexington Insurance Company and he received a partial payment for the damages in his home. However, the MLB athlete reportedly did not receive any more from the insurance company although he is entitled for full coverage, as stated in his $2 million policy. Puig's Miami house is home to six bedrooms and five and a half bathrooms.

According to Spotrac, Puig's salary amounts to a total of $7,214,285 in 2016. He signed a $42 million contract for seven years with the Los Angeles Dodgers. That figure includes a $12 million signing bonus and a guaranteed annual salary of $6 million.

The MLB athlete was part of the Cuban national baseball team in the 2008 World Junior Baseball championship where he won a bronze medal. He broke into the MLB in June 2013 and was chosen by Baseball America as part of their annual "All-Rookie team."
