Home Designs: This is What a Millennial-Focused Home Would Look Like

The millenials are already coming of age, and it is now the best time for them to become homeowners. In the report by Pop Sugar, a recent research study on millennials conducted by Builder magazine and TRI Pointe Group found some interesting demographic insights about what would be their dream home. With that, Pardee Homes used the findings of the study and created a millennium-focused Responsive Homes to meet the needs of the generation that was born between the early 1980s and the early 2000s.

In the survey, it was revealed that the biggest driving factor for millenials when choosing a home is the desire to have more outdoor space. More than half of the respondents are also looking for a place that has a more suburban lifestyle.

They are also looking for a location that has urban benefits like being walking distance to amenities like parks, grocery stores, school and work. This is the main priority of this generation when looking for a home. More than 70 percent of the respondents believe that the important features of the home would involve personalization.

In the home design that was done based on these results, the first two Responsive Homes were made; one is a 2,514-square-foot contemporary farmhouse and the other is a 3,194-square-foot contemporary transitional. The company added aesthetic mixes of minimalist and urban luxury touches with the industrial and midcentury modern style that is a trend among this generation. They also included some millennial-tailored elements like an adaptable floor plan which gives options to the buyers to expand the space in case they want to have a family in the future.

Another is the technology-enabled automation and energy performance to accommodate the generation's desire to have tech-savvy and environmentally friendly homes. The company is very confident that this home design will be popular among the millenials who are looking to buy their very first home any time soon.
