Once again, Disney is set to break box office records with the release of the new "Cinderella" trailer this week. Screenrant.com premiered the second teaser of the beloved fairytale which revealed additional footages not included in the previous teaser released in November.
The live action retelling of the favorite classic features Lily James of "Downton Abbey" fame. James plays Ella, the lovely daughter of a merchant who remarried after his wife's death.
Cate Blanchett portrays Lady Tremaine, Ella's stepmother, who became cruel to as soon as her father passed away. Lady Tremaine along with her daughters, Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera), began calling her "Cinderella" as she was relegated from daughter to mere servant and cleaner of cinders.
The movie also stars Richard Madden from "Game of Thrones" as Prince Charming. He and Ella met in the woods, where sparks flew between them. A ball was held in the honor of the Prince, in which everyone was invited.
Ella was seen to have showed off the dress she hoped to wear to the ball to her stepmother and stepsister. Lady Tremaine viciously ripped off a sleeve, forcing Ella to retreat to her room and refrained from attending.
In the movie, we see her fairy godmother come to the rescue. Known for her quirky choice in roles, Helena Bonham Carter gives life to Ella's fairy godmother. She came to her rescue and after she wielded her magic wand, Ella was dressed in a stunning blue ball gown and ready to go see Prince Charming.
While other adaptations of the classic fairytale deviated from the original, Director Kenneth Branagh opted not to spin the story. He shared his reasons in an interview with Glamour Magazine.
"Being able to direct Disney's Cinderella in the 21st century means that you're in the driving seat for presenting a myth that has endured across the ages because it connects with human beings at a profound level," he said in the interview.
The director further added, "We identify with Cinderella, we love her. Cinderella is certainly placed in challenging circumstances, but she chooses not to be the damsel in distress and we see her make strong, positive choices in that regard."
Branagh also spoke of James as the natural choice to play Cinderella. "With Lily James we have found our perfect Cinderella. She combines knockout beauty with intelligence, wit, fun and physical grace," noted the director.
The movie will hit theaters in March 2015. Watch the new trailer below.
