Celebrity Homes for Sale: Steve McQueen's Former Palm Springs Home Listed for $4.6M

In the gated community of Southridge, the former home of the late actor Steve McQueen is listed for $4.6 million. According to Architectural Digest, the home was once shared by the late actor with the actress Ali MacGraw. Located just a mile and a half from downtown Palm Springs, the property was said to be a post-and-beam midcentury-modern beauty which was a perfect place for the "king of cool."

It was reported that the property remained untouched since McQueen's ownership. Originally built in 1964 by architect Hugh Kaptur, the property is made up of two intersecting glass boxes that were farmed in steel. It features two-story high doors which open to the high-ceiling foyer with a floating staircase, cypress paneling and terrazzo flooring.

It also has a large family room and an eat-in kitchen. The living room is designed with framed glass walls which provide panoramic views of the San Jacinto Mountains to the west of the city. It also has glass doors which open to a spacious terrace which maximizes the living area.

The residence has a total of four bedrooms and four bathrooms and measures 4,493 square feet. The home is filled and carpeted with luxurious Edward Fields rugs, and it is still mostly intact from when the famous actor still owned it. Listing details reveal that the bedroom wing looks over the backyard with a large swimming pool which surrounds the patio where one can also enjoy the stunning vista views of the area.

McQueen's famous films include "The Cincinnati Kid," "The Thomas Crown Affair, Bullitt," "The Getaway," and "Papillon." In 1974, he became the highest paid move star in the world and his popularity placed him in high demand. In 1979, after developing persistent cough, he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma and died of cardiac arrest during a surgery to remove the tumors which grew around his neck.
