'Samsung Galaxy S6' Release Date, Specs & Features: New Smartphone Available Next Month? [Rumors]

In just a matter of days, it's quite possible that your Samsung Galaxy S5 could be outdated.

According to report by Chosun Biz in South Korea, via Yahoo, the newest Galaxy S smartphone could be launched during the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show to be held Jan. 6 to 9 in Las Vegas.

Should this new intel be true, it's a variation from the tech firm's usual timeline of making their device debut during the Mobile World Congress. Additionally, the report also claims that alongside the new Galaxy S device, like Apple, the world might just see a two-model launch that includes an Edge version with a curved display.

Considering that the device is hotly rumored to be a completely made over unit, it would be fitting to break away from the mold its predecessors have left behind.

An earlier report by SamMobile claims that due to the poor performance of the Samsung Galaxy S5, the company launched what is called, "Project Zero," an attempt to create the best Galaxy S phone from scratch.

In a recent article by CNet, new research data suggests that while Samsung remains at the top of the smartphone market with 24.4 percent ownership, the company's standing is much lower than the 32 percent share it held last year.

"Samsung's troubles weren't due to a troubled smartphone market. Quite the contrary, the entire market saw sales jump from 250.3 million in 2013 to 301 million in 2014," reported research firm Gartner.

This year, Apple, with the release of the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, "was among the big winners in the third quarter, with sales rising from 30.3 million last year to 38.2 million this year."

With stiff competition slowly creeping up on the tech giant, Samsung is in dire need of something new and innovate. Could the Samsung Galaxy S6 be the answer?

Rumored Samsung Galaxy S6 Specs

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is expected to have a 5.5-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display, Exynos 7420 octa-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB internal storage, a 20MP and 5MP camera and to come with Google's latest OS, the Android 5.0 Lollipop.

Phone Arena reported that Samsung is aiming for Galaxy S6 global sales to be at 45 million units.

With a rumored post-holiday release, the site further claims that "the company would really start the new year with a bang if it manages to unveil the S6 in January, prepping it for sales a few weeks after. This would indeed overshadow the launch of the Xperia Z4, Huawei's D8, or HTC's (M9), all of which are expected to come by the time spring has descended upon us."
