Home Cleaning Ideas: Here's a Look at Home Products You Should Not Mix Together

Here are some of the home-cleaning products that you shouldn't mix together.

According to Good Housekeeping, several products may be useful and reliable for specific types of cleaning needs. However, when they are mixed together with other products, they can cause more harm to furniture and some surfaces.

Nancy Bock, senior VP of education at the American Cleaning Institute said, "Certain products, which are safe when used alone, can sometimes cause unsafe fumes or other chemical reactions when mixed with other products."

Here's a look at some of the products that don't actually go together.

First is the drain cleaner. When you've already used up an entire bottle of your first drain cleaner, don't use it for refills especially if you're buying a different brand this time around. Even though both products are drain cleaners, they may contain different ingredients because they are from two different manufacturers.

Second, it is also important to never mix baking soda with vinegar. According to Bock, "Baking soda is basic and vinegar is acidic. When you put them together you get mostly water and sodium acetate. But really, just mostly water."

Other than this, mixing baking soda with vinegar can see the formation of a form-like substance that may not be safe for people.

Third, hydrogen peroxide shouldn't also be mixed with vinegar. When these two products are combined together, it may result in the creation of peracetic acid which can irritate the skin, the eyes and other body parts.

Lastly, avoid mixing bleach and vinegar together because they may produce chlorine gas. The latter can cause coughing, coughing and more.

Now that you have an idea as to which cleaning products are not to be mixed, hopefully you master them and avoid mixing them together at home. This way, you and your family members will always be safe.
