Philanthropist Tina Hovespian has been gaining popularity these days for providing houses and opportunities for homeless people. The Los Angeles innovator, who also happens to be the founder of Cardborigami, is currently thinking of ways on how to mass produce portable and affordable residences for those who cannot really pay for a house.
While speaking with Elle Décor, Hovespian revealed that her homes are only intended to provide temporary shelter for those in need. For instance, if a family's house is destroyed by an earthquake, they can go to the portable houses built by the innovator and stay there until they are able to recover.
Meanwhile, Hovsepian also revealed that she was inspired to do what she's currently doing after she traveled around Southeast Asia and learned how a lot of people in those parts of the world are being plagued by poverty.
Hovsepian added that she felt there were similarities between the Southeast Asian countries and Los Angeles because the latter has also been dubbed the homeless capital of the United States. With this, she set out on a mission to do something to be able to give back to the community. That's when Cardborigami came to be, and she just found herself mass producing it nonstop.
Hovsepian also shared that it took her and her team a couple of months to perfect the design for the portable houses.
In other news, Hovsepian shared that they are currently hiring homeless people to work for them in building the houses. This can help them earn a reasonable amount of income to sustain their lives. A team of researchers have also been hired to give the homeless people a one-of-a-kind experience while working for Hovsepian.
"I want to be an example that you can be successful while helping out," she said.
