Feng Shui 2016: Effective Ways to Declutter Your Home

Based on the ancient Chinese belief, feng shui, if applied correctly in any space, can bring harmony and good luck. One of the first steps in applying feng shui in any home is to declutter, as house clutter can reportedly block the flow of energy which may result in troubles in marriage, work, and other aspects of life. Here are some ways to declutter your home according to feng shui 2016 principles.

Allure recently cited the work of "space-clearing" guru Karen Kingston titled "Clear Your Clutter With Feng Shui," which provides tips in removing clutter not only in your home but your workspace, body and mind as well.

Among the first steps that Kingston suggests in her book is to have at least one major decluttering per year. Kingston said that any time is a good time to start, but it's also advisable to do it after you experience changes in your life. These changes include a house move, recovery from an illness, new job and more.

Another step is to familiarize yourself with the different areas in your home. According to Kingston's feng shui 2016 tips, you must make a list of the zones in your house that need clearing, from the least cluttered to the most. She suggests cleaning those areas that are most cluttered and irritate you the most.

Lastly, Kington says it's important to declutter on a regular basis. "Make a date with yourself to do it, and show up," she advised. It's important to have a regular schedule for decluttering, and the length of time would depend on you.

Meanwhile, About Home also provided a few ways to clear clutter according to feng shui. According to the site, for every decluttering session, it is important to first bring beautiful and light energy with you. This could be anything that makes you feel good such as listening to music, etc. The site also said that it is important to keep an energetic rhythm that works for you and to not slow down.
